- Comments may appear on your newsfeed

- Your profile may be seen by others depending on your privacy settings

Social media is a great tool, but it's important you stay safe online.

Below you'll find some ways to protect yourself from danger when you're using social media.

Think twice before you share something online

Protect your passwords

Be careful about who you talk to online

Understand what you can do to stay safe online

Remember that social media is public. Don't share anything that you would not be comfortable with your family or friends seeing.

Don’t post content that gives away any information about where you live or your personal details.

Use complex passwords so that others cannot guess your login. Always keep your passwords to yourself and change them regularly.

Be very cautious about who you decide to chat to online. If you do not know somebody and they attempt to talk to you online - ignore them, delete their request or block them.

There are a number of steps you can take to be safer online:

- Go to your privacy settings and make sure you have as many privacy options as possible selected. You can still chat to your friends but this will make it harder for others to see your activity.

- Remember that you can block, report or delete messages/comments online.

Please note that we reserve the right to remove any comments and block users who post content that we deem inappropriate.

We may also delete comments that put your privacy at risk including personal information, your address, and anything that discloses private information you have told a counsellor.

We will remove comments that are threatening, abusive, racist, sexist, homophobic or in any way insulting.

- If you don't want people to know that you follow us on Facebook then you can just read our content without 'liking' the page

- You can also avoid 'liking' and commenting on our adverts to protect your privacy from others
